Open Source and Web 2.0

http://blog.linuxtoday.com

With a headline like that, I get the most buzzword-conscious award for the day. But I can't help myself; I'm currently sitting in the O'Reilly Radar Executive Briefing, listening to publisher Tim O'Reilly give the opening remarks to the small audience of about 150.

Ubuntu Live needs a more commercial focus

http://www.linux.com

Ubuntu gets buzz like mad. Ubuntu is the next wave in Linux. Ubuntu is led by Mark Shuttleworth, a world-famous, charismatic person who buzzes around the world in his private jet, bringing the GNU/Linux gospel to the masses. And Ubuntu has now held its first Ubuntu Live conference, which was a decent first effort but nowhere near as polished as Red Hat's annual get-togethers.

Poetry in kernel documentation

http://lkmltimes.brucalipto.org

Rusty Russell posted on LKML some patches to add documentation for his actual kernel work known as lguest. In one of his patches Rusty wrote:”Indeed, no code changes, and I feel strongly that it should go into 2.6.23 because it’s fun. And (as often complained) there’s not enough poetry in the kernel.”

"Pretty much anything [Mac] has, Linux can do better." Hogwash. Can we kill the zealotry?

http://www.oreillynet.com

Torvalds said, “I don’t use either [Windows or Mac OS X]. http://www.itbusinessedge.com

With a more friendly (for the open sourcers out there, I’m sure you could trade out the modifier “dumb” here) interface and help documentation, the process could have been cut to 15 or so minutes, I’d guess, but there were still some legitimate hassles.

http://larrytheopensourceguy.wordpress.com
