Torvalds said, “I don’t use either [Windows or Mac OS X]. OS X is kind of pointless (pretty much anything it has, Linux can do better) and Windows offers stuff that I don’t much care about (mainly games — and I’ve got games machines for those).” Before I comment on this any more than I have, let me just say that I have been a near-exclusive Linux desktop user since 2001. I love Linux and I still think there are some areas where Linux dominates. However, to Torvalds, I say, “hogwash”. He can get around careful scrutiny by his choice of words “pretty much anything it has” and “Windows offeres stuff that I don’t much care about”.

Oh goodie. Another one of those
Oh goodie. Another one of those "Let's get all the os's together to hold hands" articles. So linux isn't a mac. We get it. that doesn't mean we should all chuck in our free software because mac burns dvds better. How about, I use linux because it's free?

Meh. Linux distributions are more
Meh. Linux distributions are more integrated than your average window or mac machines. For example, people do the hard work of making sure that the dependencies don't collide with each other. Not to mentioned that distributions often customize their software installations.
KDE and GNOME are even their own whole environment. Like KDE have K in practically every official KDE applications.
