Your editor wishes to take no position on whether Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems should be allowed to proceed by the European Union. Such a decision certainly involves a number of antitrust considerations which go beyond the free software community. That said, some of the positions being taken around this acquisition shine an interesting light on how parts of our community work.

As 2009 draws to a close, it's time to take a look back at what Ubuntu and its community have accomplished in the outgoing year.  There may be nothing revolutionary to report, but there have nonetheless been some notable changes to Ubuntu itself and the community around it over the last year.  Here's a look at the most memorable ones.

KDM (KDE Display Manager) is the K Desktop Environment replacement for XDM, the X Display Manager. KDM allows users to pick their session type on a per-login basis using different themes and user photos.

It's SUSE's motion to lift the stay that will be argued and the Petrofsky motion to compel, and maybe some uncontested housekeeping issues.
