SuperOS: Like Ubuntu But Easier
One problem I run into a lot when recommending Ubuntu to complete Linux newbies is they aren't used to installing codecs or using the terminal when they want to play DVDs, MP3s and other file types. Explaining the legal situation is something I make a point of doing but some people "just want it to work".

The five-minutes-fix myth
One of the complains I often get for my QA work (which I have to say is vocally not appreciated even by the other devs), is that I could just go on and fix the issues I find rather than opening bug for them. No it does not take five minutes to fix something, I can assure you!

Anybody up to writing good directory software?
Tue, 2007-02-20 11:17 — David JonathanFrom the very start, directories have served a very useful purpose on the Internet. (One I find useful for example is Free Web Directory). News sites can also be considered directories: they index and categorize news stories! What about categorizing software? In the open source world you get Savannah, SourceForge, Freshmeat; there are still, believe it or not, shareware and freeware directories like FileBuzz, PCWin Download Center and Freeware Downloads (although you need to be careful, as they are not like their free-as-in-freedom counterparts).

Most of what you find on Google, however, are not pointing to free and open soruce software -- or worse, they mix the two.
