For my money, the best desktop operating system is Linux -- MEPIS and OpenSUSE at the top with Ubuntu closing in fast, to be exact. But everyone has their own opinion, and over at PC Magazine some old friends and coworkers of mine decided to compare all the most popular desktop operating systems: Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Leopard), and Ubuntu 7.10.

Flash CS3 and Photoshop CS3 running in Wine
It looks as if Wine might be supporting Adobe's Flash CS3 as well as Photoshop CS3 on Linux in the near future. With the recent help from Google to get Photoshop CS and CS2 working properly in Wine a huge chunk of the underlying architecture work was put in place for CS3 application support. There are still a number of bugs that need to be triangled and fixed before CS3 is properly supported but this is great news none the less.

External projectors/monitors with GNU/Linux
When giving a presentation you have to get the projector working quickly and correctly otherwise it might get embarrassing. Many laptops have a special button to control the external screen but that does not always work with Linux or with some configurations, as sometimes there are too many things for the computer to figure out. Best thing to do is learn a couple of commands to control the external VGA output and do the thinking ourselves.

openSuse 10.3 Impressions
I recently upgraded from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3, I did it the usual way, formatted my Linux partition and installed the new version. Just like 10.2, 10.3 installed without a hitch, recognized all my hardware, except my ATI Radeon X1300(more about this demonic device later).
