File Management in the Terminal with Midnight Commander
If you remember computers as far back as the late 1980s, you might remember how Peter Norton came to prominence with the three-floppy (was it three?) Norton Utilities suite. There were a lot of cool tools in that pack, especially Norton Commander, which suddenly made file management a breeze. Midnight Commander is the GNU version of that utility, with an identical layout and similar color scheme.

After seriously giving Firefox 3 Beta 4 a try due to Safari 3.1 breaking the Shift key in Gmail (update: as kindly pointed out by some of my readers in the comments, it was Gmail that was broken, not Safari 3.1, doh), I’ve converted to using Firefox 3 Beta 4 as my primary browser.

Pulseaudio ate my wifi
“pulseaudio”, the new Linux sound server, has a very nifty feature — streaming of music to any number of listeners, over RTP. This is great. What’s not so great is that this seems to have magically turned itself on, and was broadcasting UDP traffic over multicast on my wifi network, which didn’t have enough bandwidth to host it.

EeePCLinuxOS: Custom PCLinuxOS build for Eee PC
I've never spent much time playing with PCLinuxOS, as it doesn't work very well on my primary computer. But EeePCLinuxOS looks pretty interesting. It's a custom version of EeePCLinuxOS designed for the Eee PC with a couple of tweaks that will improve its performance on the tiny laptop.
