Mandriva 2009.1 offers a number of administrative tools that work well and are easy to use. One of those features is the network Applet.

I’ve been trying a lot of distros on the aa1 recently, I’ve tried all Ubuntus from 8.04 till 9.04, sidux, slitaz, madbox, and now Kuki Linux.

sK1 is an open source vector graphics editor similar to CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, or Freehand which just had it's first public release a few days ago.

First of all sK1 is oriented for "prepress ready" PostScript & PDF output.

The major sK1 features:

* Cairo-based engine
* Color managment

Xwindows is the GUI that pretty much every free and non-free unix and unix-like OS uses. Xwindows is a paradox, in that in some ways it is advanced, especially considering it’s age.

I've been waffling for a couple of days over whether to write this post or not. I finally decided to just speak my mind.

cutmp3, as the name implies is a simple command line tool to edit and cut MP3 files without loosing any quality. cutmp3 can edit the mp3 files interactively or selection (start time and end time) can be provided from the command line or even better can be used with a timetable fiile specifiying different start/end times from the same MP3 files.

This category of purely under-the-hood work is not immediately obvious and thus is often under-appreciated, but yields many useful improvements to the Free Desktop.

Ratpoison. It sounds like something that kills a rat. It sure does. Ratpoison is a WM (Window Manager) that runs on Linux that has one purpose: to kill your rat. Here we are referring to that disgusting little lump beside your keyboard that shoots lasers out of its arse.
