The MeeGo Project released the baseline source code for the handset version of the Linux-based mobile OS to the development community. This code is being developed as MeeGo 1.1, which is slated for an October release. The MeeGo team also released the MeeGo UI design principles and interaction guidelines.

Dell may sell Google Chrome OS pre-installed
Talks are under way between Google and Dell to bring Chrome OS, the search giant's cloud-centric operating system, to Dell's computer lineup, according to a Dell executive. Dell wants to be "on the forefront" of "unique innovations" like Chrome OS that will hit store shelves in the next few years, Amit Midha Dell's president for greater China and South Asia recently told Reuters.

Linaro seeks to simplify ARM Linux landscape
The ARM processor family is a complicated one, with many different variations, leading to large numbers of separate sub-architectures in the Linux kernel. Toshiba AC100 The AC100 is a mobile internet device with a 10.1 inch LED screen and "up to 8 hours" of battery life. According to Toshiba, it "combines smartphone functionality with netbook usability".

Dell back-tracks on Linux being safer than Windows
Recently Dell did something amazing. The Austin, TX computer giant admitted on one of their Web pages that "Ubuntu [Linux] is safer than Microsoft Windows." (PDF Link) But, now Dell has backed off to the far more generic "Ubuntu is secure".
