Mark Shuttleworth’s Ubuntu perspective

http://ztrek.blogspot.com

I’m a fan of Ubuntu Linux, and think that Mark Shuttleworth is a good guy. However, to many in the Linux community, the South African entrepreneur is a rock star, a god. What’s more, Ubuntu Linux is seen by many as the first, and only, Linux distribution that might have a shot at gaining market share on the desktop.

Ubuntu's Mark Shuttleworth: Prepare for the Shared Software Tidal Wave

http://www.linuxinsider.com

"I was poor. I was desperate. I wanted to be on this bandwagon of this Internet thing, and I wanted to find a business that wouldn't require large amounts of bandwidth or large amounts of capital. The key was Linux. It was Linux that let me connect to the Net so I could start soaking up this knowledge," said Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu on a $99 computer

http://p2pnet.net

Chipzilla is doing everything it can to undercut MIT's One Laptop Per Child project not, sadly, in the name of helping disadvantaged kids in Africa and elsewhere, but instead to pander to the God of the Bottom Line. But it's not the only game in town and another cheap system is quietly trundling along in the background.

Your mom Kubuntus!

http://education.zdnet.com

"Sorry, my students’ steady stream of “your mom” jokes brings out my inner 14-year old. However, this is the first in my series this summer of training for the masses (see * for dummies) and the point is that your mom (or your grandmother, or your most typewriter-bound secretary) could quite easily Kubuntu (or Ubuntu, or SUSE, or whatever)."

http://ubuntuforums.org

I called the Home office department. I asked the representative if I could buy one of the ubuntu computers for my company. She said (and I quote), "these Dell computers are designed for personal use only, as long as you use it for personal use, you can purchase one."

When Ubuntu becomes genuine Windows!

http://ubuntuforums.org

I was asked to do the Genuine Advantage test. I used the alternate authentication method (IE4Linux doesn't support Active X), downloaded and then ran the genuine advantage application (which took quite a while to start). It gave me a code that I pasted into the authentication box, and to my surprise it verified me and forwarded me to the download page.

Ubuntu Studio Review

http://performancepccanada.com

A weakness in multimedia production (or at least the perception of) has long been the Achilles’ heel of Linux. Yes, major Hollywood productions use Linux and there are a smattering of graphics and audio programs, but there has never been a comprehensive and cohesive collection of media creation tools for the average user—until now.

A New Adventure! Windows Mobile and Ubuntu Linux

http://www.pocketpcmag.com

I was almost sure that there would be no way to synchronize my Windows Mobile Outlook information (contacts, tasks, schedule, etc.) with Ubuntu. But after a bit of tinkering this morning I'm amazed to report that I am able to synchronize with Ubuntu! Not only is this fact amazing standing by itself, it is even more incredible when one considers that I cannot even synchronize this data with Vista
