I wrote last year about how 2008 would be the ‘Year of Non-desktop Linux’. As we embark on 2009, I have a similar view, but in keeping with all of the turkey and ham and leftovers from the holidays and to present a more appetizing analogy, I envision the ‘2009 Linux Sandwich.’

So everything is going according to plan, you have successfully got the parts, built it, set up the BIOS and installed the OS. Now we are on to our last Building A Linux Computer article.

Difficulties with SUSE demonstrate barriers (and reasons to choose another distribution)

If you sometimes wish that your favorite Linux distro should have a mascot, then you may like what I’m about to show you. But before that, let me give you a short intro. Some of you may have heard of the OS-tan. To those who haven’t, here’s a description taken from its wiki page: The OS-tans are an Internet phenomenon that started on Futaba Channel.

Sony Electronics is shipping a digital still camera with WiFi for uploading files to photo-sharing services. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 offers 10-megapixel recording, a 4X optical zoom, DLNA compliance, 4GB of memory, and face- and scene-recognition software that runs on Linux.

Kernel 2.6.28 Released

Torvald released the final version of Linux Kernel 2.6.28. It's not a big change since RC 9, but it finally appeared as final after lots of discussion on LKML whether to postpone the release or release earlier and make the merge window longer as the developers goes on long holidays.
