Planning Backups
I've been thinking a lot about backups recently and am starting to implement what I see as a fairly comprehensive backup system. Since it doesn't seem like there is enough good information about realistic backups systems and how people really use them, I am going to keep posting anything useful I learn. Mepis 8
I just recently downloaded and installed Mepis again. I’ll have to say, it has really improved from previous installs I’ve tried. Before it was based on Ubuntu and had the blot inherited from such a blotted upstream distro.

Split APE and FLAC Files in Ubuntu and Add Tags by Cue File
Did you ever downloaded a single APE or FLAC file consisting of multiple songs? If so, it's quite annoying to try and listen to only one song. But you can split the files into multiple songs exactly like in the cue file (each song's start and end time are saved in the cue file, so we'll know where to cut the big file).

Running Linux Under Windows

Banshee as the default mediaplayer?
Jo Shields posts about his intention to propose switching Rhythmbox for Banshee in Karmic. (I'm trying to convince him to apply to be a MOTU, or at least an Ubuntu member, so he can be on Planet Ubuntu.) He's not the first to suggest it, but he is in the right place to make the proposal for this release.

Sarien open source multi-player game engine released
Martin Kool, a developer from Web applications specialist Q42, has released his open source multi-player game engine. Sarien.net is a "portal for reliving the classic Sierra On-Line adventure games" and is completely browser based. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome are all supported.
