The popular social networking site Facebook just announced a Chinese version, but similar Chinese-based Web sites such as Xiaonei and Hainei have been struggling there. However, since April, UCenter Home, an open source social network service based on PHP and MySQL, is pushing open social networking in China.

Hi guys, had an idea that I don’t have a lot of time to do, but thought I would throw it out to the community since I thought it was a cool idea.

With the historic events of early June, 2008, here in the United States, it feels as if freedom is coming. When I woke up and saw the newspaper headline on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, my initial reaction was: "This is a fine day for freedom." And so I composed this song whose opening lyric is: "Freedom comes on one fine day."

Last post, I boldly proclaimed (using my proclaiming voice, which makes the font bold and a size larger), "There is not a single thing wrong with a single FOSS program's user interface, anywhere, period." And I expected to get some reactions, and I did, and I'm ready to explain that line.

Harris' post is provoked by a discussion of “poisonous” users, i.e., those select few users who turn up and (intentionally or not) do “contribute” to the project in the form of dissonance and conflict, but the idea that open source doesn’t need users is one that should be strongly refuted.
