NimbleX 2008 Beta
"NimbleX 2008 Beta has finally been released! After many months of using it, I finally decided is good enough to be released as a Beta version of NimbleX 2008. Several things still need to be polished but overall it's an important step towards what's going to be NimbleX 2008. The most significant changes are from the technology point of view, that in the future should provide a significant increase in usability and stability..."

Typography in LaTeX
In the previous article regarding writing a dissertation we omitted the problem of typography and focused chiefly on the structure of the text and its elements. With this article we will complete our course on LaTeX. Since the previous article had a lot of illustrative examples of how to use LaTeX to typeset the text, we will also employ some of these instances today.

The XO Laptop: It’s the Software, Stupid
It’s an amazing thing to watch—at least, to a city slicker like me who doesn’t get to witness the miracle of birth every day. But what makes this particular video remarkable is that it was shot by a fourth-year student at Villa Cardal’s Public School 24, using the built-in camera and recording software on the student’s XO Laptop, within weeks of the machine’s arrival at the school last year.

Mobile Linux: A Crowd Is Starting to Form
I see a lot of predictions that say Linux is going to be one of the top three operating systems for mobile devices in coming years -- and a lot that say that mobile devices are going to make up an ever-larger portion of our information technology usage in the near future.

The Linux community and its (future) problem
I just want to drop a line about what I believe to be the future biggest problems of the Linux community: people who believe to have a clue but don’t (and who will misguide people in the process)

Google's Summer of Code Headed Down Under
Google is hinting at the possibility of an Australian version of the Summer of Code program. Quoting iTnews: "The global program had attracted students from 90 countries around the world, including Australia, said Hawthorn. But as the timing clashed with winter term time in the southern hemisphere, it's been tough for local students to participate. Stopping short of confirming the program, Hawthorn said Google is looking into finding the human resources - as opposed to the financial resources - to make it happen."

Python 3.0 To Be Backwards Incompatible
Organizations using Python will be affected in a major way by changes in store for the language over the course of the next twelve months, Linux.conf.au attendees were told this morning. The Python development community is working towards a new, backwards-incompatible version of the language, version 3.0, which is slated for release in early 2009. Anthony Baxter, the release manager for Python and a senior software engineer at Google Australia, said "We are going to break pretty much all the code. Pretty much every program will need changes." Baxter also added another tidbit for attendees, saying that Python accounts for around 15 percent of Google's code base.

The Devasura Clan Wars
A long time ago in the ages of the Pentium 1s and 2s, the Deva and the Asura clans would fight their Counterstrike clan wars in order to decide the fate of the world. The Devas always had the upper hand, what with Indra and his speciality Vajrayudha-47 gun and Vishnu once in a while picking off headshots with his Sudarshana Scout Rifle. So things went fine for a while, and the gaming world was happy.

Ubuntu/Canonical not helping "us" compute?
Recently Ubuntu/Canonical contacted me for the use of buntu in our domain name. I had emailed them long before any announcement of the site but with no reply until the site began to attract visitors/users.
I understand that Ubuntu/Canonical has a job to do when it comes to protecting their best interest. But Ourbuntu is doing nothing more than giving users the ability to setup a Ubuntu/Linux based system and sell it at no cost. Which helps promote the use of opensource software.
