Howto write an ISO image to a CD-RW from the Linux console
I need to / want to write ISO’s to CD’s from my Linux server, but since I don’t have an X-Manager like Gnome or KDE running, I need to find a way to write the CD’s from the command line with SSH. Luckely the server is right next to me, and it’s got a CDRW drive. It’s an old 24 speed Samsung CDRW, but that’s fine, it can still do the job well.

Down to earth: Geotagging photos
Even the most basic digital cameras can store a lot of useful information about photos in the EXIF format, including exposure time, aperture settings, focal length, and metering mode. The EXIF metadata can also contain the photo's geographical coordinates, which provide the exact position of where the photo was taken, but only few cameras on the market support this feature. This nifty utility allows you to quickly geotag multiple photos in one go and do some other interesting things with them.

Using "shred" to Securely Delete Files

Is OpenLogic a friend or foe to open source?
OpenLogic just announced that it had a good 2007. The company tripled its number of customers, and now counts three of the Fortune 10 as companies, with many more in the Fortune 500. Good for them. What is perhaps less appealing about the company's success is that it may be achieving its success at the expense of the projects that make it possible in the first place.
