The reason this has now come to a head in Europe is because the Enlarged Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office has been debating whether software patents should be enforceable in EU counties. The battleground is Article 52 of the European Patent Convention, which specifically states what's excluded from patent protection.

Linux Still Not Ready for Prime Time
I’m a Fedora fan, and I’m impressed with each new release, but in the end, its just nowhere near ready. You have to do far too much research and under the hood work to get it to do everything you want it to do, and in the end, not everyone writes drivers for Linux, and the community doesn’t write drivers for everything.

Is Ubuntu Bigger than Debian now?
This week's Jaunty Jackalope release was Ubuntu's 10th release and the 9th release that I've used myself. I first became aware of Ubuntu in 2005 with the 'Hoary Hedgehog' release for only one reason, Debian Sarge was AWOL.
