Many types of open or general public licenses govern online collaborative spaces like wikis. The popular choices seem to fall under three categories: CopyLeft, Creative Commons, and Public Domain. All open licenses allow some use of content that would normally be covered by full copyright protection.

But, man.... I just couldn't resist the temptation of asking myself "... then how much power is spent on Windows implementing DRM protection mechanisms?". It has been disputed that it be a lot of energy to implement DRM mechanisms. It has been argued that this is not too much of an effort... that DRM in Vista is rougly a couple of LOC on the whole system. I just couldn't care less about it..

It seems harmless enough at first, the desire to keep ads from overtaking the content you wish to view from your favorite websites. But what so many people seem to fail to understand is that many of these content providers are using ads to make a living. Otherwise, there would be no time to gather the content and post original works in the first place.

In the past, I have always found it comical when companies have found themselves buying into the need to protect their content with DRM because of the pressure from the music and movie industries. Well, it seems that Netflix is no different, but I have to ask: is the DRM protection really needed in their case for online movie viewing?

It's always so difficult to make a "top" anything list. There are so many good candidates and you know that no matter which ones you choose, you're going to make somebody unhappy, but here's my shot at the top five open source content management systems.

In particular, it enables content creators to submit content without requiring technical knowledge of HTML or the uploading of files. A CMS is most commonly used in creating an intranet or in establishing a presence on the Web.

There are a number of full featured open source content management systems out there. Content management systems (CMS) are used increasingly in lieu of more "traditionally" managed web pages, on various sites with diverse audiences and very different goals. They can be updated quickly, easily, and require very little (if any) knowledge of how the inner plumbing works.

Content-filtering proxies restrict Internet access privileges for users or groups across an entire network. They must be able to block unwanted content through keyword, URL, DNS, MIME, and image filtering.

The only references to software source code that I found in TomTom’s prospectus related to a discussion about copyright protection of source code (as opposed to “object” code, not open source code). I searched via a .pdf “find” and admit that even after apparently illegally obtaining the TomTom prospectus, I did not read it.
