It's almost exciting as Alien vs. Predator, only a little more sad. It's a tale of two Firefox addon developers, Giorgio Maone wielding Noscript and Wladimir Palant brandishing Adblock Plus, crossing swords in a battle of egos and subterfuge, while the poor world of Firefox users watched in consternation.

The NoScript Firefox extension faced a major backlash last week when users discovered that it was surreptitiously disrupting the operation of AdBlock Plus. Mozilla has responded by proposing a new policy that sets boundaries for appropriate extension behavior.

There was a big brew-ha-ha over the past few days with NoScript and some unscrupulous bit of code installed in it. However, even though Maone has born the brunt of this controversy, he is not the only guilty party in this.

Maybe you’ve already read a bit about the big stink around NoScript? Personally, I find both of these extensions very useful, and have been using both for as long as I have been aware of them. Along with FireGestures, they are the first extensions I always install along with Firefox.

GNUCitizen.org has discovered a way for malicious JAVA scripts to be hidden in a page that will be automatically extracted by Firefox’s JAVA reader. There is an easy fix if you install the NoScript Firefox extension, but this means that you’ll be running absolutely no scripts, making for a far more boring web browsing experience.

Do you still use Firefox? I am still a Firefox fan, however the latest release in the Dev channel for Google Chrome has me really excited. One of the best extensions for Firefox was one called NoScript — a really easy way to make sure browsing stays secure.
