With more and more users turning to the Internet to store and share documents, Linux developer Ubuntu has also entered the market with a beta version of its UbuntuOne service (http://www.ubuntuone.com). The platform is a competitor to the likes of Dropbox and allows users to synchronise files between computers as well as sharing them with friends and colleagues.

Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) has recently released a beta version of their online file syncing service – UbuntuOne for public testing. In this tutorial, we are going to take a quick look at its functionality and how you can install UbuntuOne in your Ubuntu machine.

As a KDE fan myself, I couldn’t wait to try it out. It took a while before Kubuntu packages were made available, however as soon as they were released I jumped on it and installed the beta on my laptop. What did I think of it?

Pidgin 2.5 will be included in Ubuntu Intrepid, but some of us won’t want to wait that long to start using it. Luckily we won’t have to wait, or compile the source code, as GetDeb already has Debian packages (.debs) you can use to download.

Now Ubuntu Users can finally access the UbuntuOne Music Store in Banshee .You do need to be running Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 (or any prior Lucid version that is fully up-to-date).

A recent message on the UbuntuOne mailing list announces that Canonical has teamed up with Funambol, an established software stack that synchronizes thousands of mobile phones and other devices who have built a community around different client plugins, virtually supporting the majority of the existing software on all platforms that have contacts (Thunderbird, Outlook, Mac OS X Mail, etc).
