The authentication of FS Daily is so crappy currently and it is such a pain to use it every day. It seems it is becoming crappier by day. I never get my remember my login correctly. Forget it, just to post a news or to vote on a story you need to sign in many times, refresh and above all pray it will let you do it.

One of my pet peeves is....

people using a site to complain about a site. It happens all the time on digg and now it's starting to happen here too by the looks of it.

If you have a problem why don't you go to the drigg/drupal site and file a bug report direct to the people who can fix it? What is the point of submitting it here? Or at least just send an email direct to the guys who run the site. I'm sure they will file the bug report for you!

FS Daily folks wrote drigg

As far as I remember FS Daily folks wrote drigg. And new features of the site was posted here as news earlier. See the news of OpenID in FS Daily.

Drupal, too

Yeah, our companion site, Free Software Magazine, is operated by Drupal developers, as well, so this is going straight back to the source.

What you are saying is (sort of) misinformation

Tony and I began FSM together. We then began FSD together. He did the developing; I, at the very least, had a hand in doing just about everything else. We very amicably split up our original business partnership - he now runs FSM and I now run FSD. He still does development for me/drigg, in particular when I can pay him.

Submitting a complaint as a story here does not go back to the source. Tony doesn't read FSD on a daily basis and certainly not the upcoming queue. Anyone with a problem relating to FSM should contact them direct through their email address and the same goes for FSD. Even then Tony being a drupal developer doesn't mean he can solve every bug from every module that is used for FSD. This particular bug is most likely in the module that handles the "remember me" option. This is not one of Tony's modules.

Misinformed, anyway

I was so far out of all internet contact for most of last summer that I could only guess about the changes to the two sites.

FSM seemed to still maintain a strong connection with this site, when I returned, so I just assumed this contact was continuing.

I had considered using Drupal to help manage my documents, but now I'm experimenting with a Knowledge Tree server which will probably be more specific with regard to my particular DMS problems.

The two sites grew out from the same roots

Tony and I created both sites together so they will always be linked. We just wanted to be in control of our own projects and that meant he have one and I have the other.

Actually...

I own and run FSD (almost) on my own (I can't handle it 24/7) - I am not, however, a developer of Drigg. When I need/want something developed for FSD I contact the Drigg developers (mainly Tony Mobily). I have reported this bug already and we have not been able to pin down what is causing it. Rather than waste any more time on it we have been moving ahead with the upgrade to Drupal 6 in the hope that a lot of bugs will get smoothed out along the way. This is Tony's advice to me and I trust it.

I also would really prefer for you to contact me via email about bugs regarding the site. Submitting stories is _not_ a method of communicating with me directly.

If you really want something done... it is free software. Help us all out and contribute to the project!

contact address?

Thanks for inviting to contact you via e-mail. I also wanted to contact you some time ago because of a problem. I have searched for a contact address, but I could not find one. I also cannot find the address in your user-account.

BTW. the Login with OpenID also seems to be broken.

staff + AT + fsdaily + DOT + com

At the bottom of every page of our site there is a link that says "Contact".

That page gives the address staff + at + fsdaily + dot + com.

In case anyone wonders why it is given in this way, it's to prevent our address being added by bots to spam email lists. Sorry for not just giving a normal link type email address.

"contact" link

Ah, now I have seen it.
But it is really hard to see. It is nearly black on black and very small. It would be nice if you could brighten up the color a little. That the address is somewhat obfuscated is okay. Maybe a contact-webform would also be a good solution.

Don't get me wrong. Apart from some minor problems I think that fsdaily is really a great website.

This is kind of weird..

I visit FSD almost more than 10 times a day, and the "remember me" option works just flawlessly with me, I rarely need to sign in again..

So, maybe the problem isn't with Drupal or Drigg, I'm not sure though.. :-/

This is exactly why we are having trouble

The fact that some users are having trouble and others are not is great for helping us debug the problem... however, despite our best efforts we were never able, when we tried, to track down where the problem is.

Rest assured we have tried. Now we are just hoping that upgrading to Drupal 6 will solve this problem along with a few others like the OpenID problems that have plagued us.
