Free Software Foundation statement on WebM and VP8

From today, users will be able to download and install free software to play and encode the new WebM format. WebM is based on the Matroska container format -- replacing Ogg -- and the VP8 video codec which replaces Theora. Crucially, the Vorbis audio codec is part of the new WebM specification.

GNOME Foundation defends OOXML involvement

The GNOME Foundation has issued a statement in response to recent accusations that it has been supporting the acceptance of Microsoft's Office Open XML format (OOXML) as an ECMA standard at the expense of the Open Document Format (ODF), the open standard used by, KOffice and other free software office applications.
