Peruvian Congressman's rebuttal to Microsoft FUD in 2002

A bill was proposed (and later in 2005 passed into law) that the Peruvian state was to only use free software. This incited the manager of Microsoft Peru to write a FUD laced letter to Dr Edgar David Villanueva Núñez, the man behind the bill 1609. Here's his rebuttal to that letter.

Defusing Peru's 'Crisis in Education' One Laptop at a Time

Peru's head of educational technology, Oscar Becerra, is betting the OLPC program can reverse the rural exodus to Lima's shantytowns four hours away. It's the best answer yet to "a global crisis of education" in which curricula have no relevance, he said. "If we make education pertinent, something the student enjoys, then it won't matter if the classroom's walls are straw or the students are sitting on fruit boxes."

Peru signs up for 260,000 OLPC laptops

One month after the One Laptop Per Child charity went into mass production with its $188 laptop, the Peruvian government has signed a contract to purchase 260,000 units.
