Doesn't it bother you, at least on some level, that Microsoft has found a way to profit from Linux? And profit greatly I might add. The idea of that is personally repulsive. Let me tell you what is not only repulsive, it's obscene.

Following recent reports of a South African bank eyeing out Linux, Novell South Africa today issued a statement in which it said it had reached an agreement with First National Bank of South Africa to standardise the bank's 12 000 desktops in its 680 retail branches on Novell's Linux product.

Brace yourself, Sun fans. In Exhibit 60, SCO's Response to Novell's Inc.'s Interrogatory 15, dated April 6, 2007, paragraph 4, we learn that Microsoft and Sun paid for licenses that included a covenant not to sue, UnixWare rights, and incidental rights to the older UNIX System V source code. Sun paid ultimately $10 million and Microsoft paid $16.75 million.

In its annual report for the fiscal year ended October 31, 2006, Novell expressed concerns over how the new version of the GPL may affect their business. Microsoft might stop distributing SUSE coupons if the GPL version 3 interferes with their agreement or puts Microsoft's patents at risk, ultimately causing Novell's business and operating results to be adversely affected.
