I’ve rarely if ever read a review of a piece of software or hardware that was given unqualified praise by the reviewer and the Asus Eee PC will be no exception. PCLinuxOS - Don't put your old laptop in the loft
This may be of interest to people who are upgrading from an old laptop etc and think that because it struggles with windows it's destined to lay dusty in the loft. My dad gave me his old Toshiba A80. A fairly humble machine by todays standards and was struggling to run XP with the additional virus checkers and the myriad of background tasks and system tray applications which seem necessary to do the simplest of tasks these days in M$ operating systems.

Open Movie Editor How-To: Fade to Black Transition
After my previous overview of Open Movie Editor (OME), I decided to create a small How-To regarding an easily obtainable piece of functionality that's not yet standard within OME.
Open Movie Editor natively contains only one transition between clips - a simple cross fade. However, one of the most used transitions in video editing is a fade to black. By adding a black still image, between two clips on a single video track in OME, it is possible to generate exactly what you need.
Full How-To including screencast.

GNOME Launch Box - QuickSilver for Linux
Gnome Launch Box, an application which is very similar to Quicksilver for Mac OSX, has recieved support for the X server Composite extension. This results in eye-candy in the form of rounded edges and real translucency, making it closer to its OSX “brother”. I definitely suggest that you try it for your self, the screenshots do not fully express how amazing this application looks, and in my opinion it now feels closer to Quicksilver..

Album Cover Art Downloader makes iPod a touch nicer
Personally, I never considered album art for my iPod all that important. That has changed now that we have an iPod touch in the family. If I'm missing a lot of album art, the experience of virtually flipping through my music collection, something Apple calls "cover flow," is diminished. iTunes doesn't always offer art for albums I didn't purchase from iTunes. Thankfully, a little GPL-licensed application called Album Cover Art Downloader (ACAD) solved my problem.
