Damn Small Linux

http://www.techiemoe.com

It's been a while since I've played with Damn Small. The last time I used it regularly was on an old Gateway Solo laptop someone at work dumped on me. The fact that I could run a new OS (however small) on an ancient Pentium 3 with 16MB of RAM was a testament to its usefulness.

Big Bolshevik goes hands-on with the EeePC

http://bigbolshevik.blogs.friendster.com

I didn't get the opportunity to use the proper KDE environment side of it; I was just using the At-Ease-style interface. But OOo Writer launched in 7 seconds (pretty good), and it was responsive. The reports are correct: The keyboard is incredibly difficult to type on. It's probably okay for hunt-and-peck'ers (the target market?), but a touch-typist like myself really struggled to hit the right keys.

Creating Encrypted FTP Backups With duplicity And ftplicity On Debian Etch

http://www.howtoforge.com

When you rent a dedicated server nowadays, almost all providers give you FTP backup space for your server on one of the provider's backup systems. Although it could be argued that your average fanboy has already got the present they wanted this xmas in the continuing growth of Linux in terms of both actual deployment and media popularity, or maybe the arrival of the Linux server for Unreal Tournament 3 or even the fact that the BBC iPlayer is now Linux compatible.
