Sometime back I had talked about another use to which the Ubuntu Software Center can be used to help fund app developers. I probably did not articulate my thoughts well so maybe reechoing it here will do some good.

This is a story of a transition from windows to Linux. This person is one of your typical computer users. Very smart in many things. A respected English instructor at a well known University and very good at their work. Unfortunately, unwilling and unable to spend time learning how to properly care for their computer.

I don't know exactly (or even slightly) how they do it, but after a crash while testing suspend/resume in the 2.6.32.21 kernel while running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid — still in beta as of this writing — I rebooted and got that little "something crashed" icon in my upper panel. It asked me if I wanted to file a bug report, and I did.

A computer security researcher has launched a project designed to provide people greater privacy when using Google, as the company expands the scope of data its collects about its users.

On March 10, 2010, the HelenOS project released version 0.4.2 of their operating system. HelenOS sits on top of the SPARTAN kernel, which supports SMP, multi-tasking and multi-threading on a variety of common architectures. One of the developers behind HelenOS, Jakub Jermar, was willing to take time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions.

Do you have a dual boot system? Isn't it annoying when you want to reboot from Linux into Windows or vice-versa, and you have to wait for the machine to shut down, the BIOS to initialize just so that you can now select the OS that you want to boot into?
