I was recently surprised to discover that many people are not familiar with WINE, what it does, or how easy it can be to make it do it. That, coupled with the recent post-beta, stable release of WINE itself, pushed me to help get the word out.

"If you’re doing research work (in school or otherwise), or if you’re seriously considering a career in the field of research or maybe the academe, then you probably know by now how important it is to publish your work [...] If you plan to write a technical paper for a conference or even better, for a journal, then I definitely recommend that you invest some of your time to learn LaTeX..." --

Is Ubuntu really easier? Is Pepsi really better than Coke?
If you have followed my blog for any extended amount of time, you know that I have tried and used an extensive number of Linux distributions. I’ve found it useful a number of times, and I have two three methods of finding out what the command actually is. If there are any Gnome devs reading this, could finding the properties be made simpler directly from the menu itself?

Make Linux Faster and Smoother!
If your computer has 1GB+ RAM, you would be hardly needing your swap space in most cases. It is evident that the RAM is much faster than your hard drive (A good 677MHz DDR2 can give 3000+ MiB/s while a standard hard drive can give around 50MiB/s). For the most part, on this blog, I try to convince readers to do something defensive on their computers - like a parent nagging a child to eat their vegetables. Only once have I put my foot down, so to speak, saying unequivocally last year that all Windows XP users should employ DropMyRights.

Every year or so, there's a new Linux distro darling. Last year's was Ubuntu, and I've lost track of what this year's favorite penguin might be. But a lot of newcomers to Linux seem to get the impression that a new distro is better than an older package because there'll be more attention paid to new technologies and easier user interfaces. In fact, pretty much the opposite is true.
