Linux is not for the masses. That’s what many people think about this ever-growing operating system. But what is the plague in the adoption of Linux?

Earlier on this month a project came to the fore the Linux Unified Kernel or LUK for short. This is a Chinese based project (although I sincerely hope that it expands to become a global effort) at putting Wine code into the Linux kernel.

There were a few areas where desktop Linux needs some improvement. I may have been lucky as a lot of these problems I have not personally experienced, some of them I have and some of them I remember from years back but are no longer relevant.

I’ve been fighting with the want to use Ubuntu for like three years now. Not just use Ubuntu, but make it my primary OS of choice.

Like it or lump it, the major reason that determines whether any given online story will get read or not is how much play it gets on news link sharing sites and social networks like Digg, reddit, and StumbleUpon. That sounds like democracy in its most basic form, but in practice what it really means that stories can be buried from sight by abusive users with an ax to grind.

Face it, no matter how user friendly, stable and well performing the operating system becomes, the majority of basic PC users will never get a chance to touch it because they will never install it.

When it comes down to the nitty gritties there are many reasons why you should use Linux and very few reasons why not. You can postulate all you like. You can um this and er that but when you look at actual fact and not FUD then Linux does look equal.
