It is hard to make up an article title to adequately express the meaning of this article in a few short words. What I really wanted the title to be is "Linux users are more experienced with windows than windows users are with Linux". This is part of a comment on a previous article and it struck a cord with me (c# I think) so I wish to expand on it further.

With apologies to my boss, a story in today's Wall Street Journal has me thinking that the future of Linux deployment might perhaps be even better than he predicted.

The headline act, if you will, was announced this morning for the third annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit, and it promises to be an interesting show: the Foundation's Jim Zemlin, Microsoft's Sam Ramji, and Sun's Ian Murdock, each giving their predictions on the future of operating system they represent - and, I expect, the others' as well.

Linux fanboys will probably have had one thought when they saw this article's title: 'Why would you go to the trouble of making Linux look like Windows when Linux already looks pretty good?' Well, there are a few good reasons.

With the arrival of Windows Vista , lots of people are looking for alternatives. And Linux has emerged as the best contender. As I have used Windows XP and Linux for last 5 years, and Vista since its release. I thought why not write an article for the people who may want to know/use/switch to Linux from Windows.

All the computing world hype this week has been about Windows 7. Cheap Windows 7; Microsoft's future rides on Windows 7, etc. etc. But, say you're not that excited about Windows 7. Why not give Linux a try.
