Microsoft hugs "open source" in order to change what it actually is and Matt Asay, a former Noveller who came to Canonical, denounces Microsoft critics and defends engagement with Microsoft

Appcelerator Titanium - the open source platform that lets you build desktop and mobile apps with web-happy development tools, including JavaScript, Python, and Ruby on Rails - has now embraced PHP.

It is important to note that SharePoint only runs on a Microsoft stack and some have speculated that SharePoint is the next operating system from Microsoft. One of the goals of the survey was to examine the influence of SharePoint and the Microsoft stack on the open source community.

The BBC wants to put its shows on the Web, and made a deal with Microsoft for the technology required to do that. (That’s the Tardis, from Dr. Who, one of many fine BBC programs.)
This has the BBC in political hot water. Boingboing says it’s a DRM issue, but the country’s Open Source Business Consortium has complained to the EC, calling it an attempt to cement Microsoft’s monopoly:

The FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) Community knows, thanks to leaked Microsoft internal documents, that since about 1998 Microsoft has been in a sort of war against them. Because of this, it is not surprising that the FOSS community has looked at Microsoft with suspicion and has vilified it to no end. But, is Microsoft really evil?

Yesterday afternoon I was speaking with a local administrator of one of the companies that I work for and in the past we had discussed topics such as GNU/Linux among other technical things but certain “concerns” always seem to come back up, not only with him but also other Microsoft using technical individuals that assume open source is bad, against Microsoft and anything good, and/or insecure

Microsoft is Microsoft. The Codex Foundation claims that it 'will complement existing open source foundations and organizations, providing a forum in which best practices and shared understanding can be established by a broad group of participants, both software companies and open source communities.' I don't believe it for a minute.
