Google shipped its first branded phone, the HTC-manufactured, Android 2.1-ready Nexus One, and announced a mobile web store. Initially available unlocked at $530 from Google or with a T-Mobile plan at $180, the Nexus One boasts a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, five-megapixel camera, and voice activated controls.

The highly anticipated smart phone from Google has arrived. The Nexus One was officially released several hours ago and is now available for consumers in selected countries. The device serves as Google's debut into the hardware market. Does Nexus One have what it takes to succeed?

The first picture of an alleged Google phone appeared on the internet. Of course these phones will run Android, Google's own Linux based Operating System for Smartphones. The phone will be called Nexus One and is made by smartphone maker HTC.

Android is maturing, both for developers and consumers. Will it dominate the mobile market? 2010 may bring the answer. Two years ago I began writing a book about writing applications for Android. Back then, most people had not heard of Android — in fact, unless you’re a phone-geek or a Linux fan, you may still not have heard of Android.

HTC, the Taiwanese builder of the Nexus One smartphone and a variety of other Android-based phones, has submitted documentation to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that point to signs of a new and possibly different Nexus One phone for the A&T network.

Android 2.2, AKA "Froyo," was announced amid wild phone-nerd scenes a couple of months back, although we're yet to see much of it in the wild.

As you may have heard, Google launched a mobile phone yesterday:...Google leads with the fact that this is as much about *how* people buy phones, as what that phone is.

With rumors swirling of a Nexus One release next week, it has me wondering why Google would undermine the open source eco-system it worked so hard to create by releasing its own branded phone.

Google has pissed off some powerful people of late, but none so much as the CEO of Apple. Jobs is unhappy about the Nexus One and gunning for Google. Could Google live to regret the day it decided to go into the phone business?
