The eyeOS developers have announced that eyeOS 2.0 will be available on January 1st, 2010. EyeOS, dubbed the "cloud computing operating system" by its creators, is a webtop environment where a server presents the users desktop within a web browser.

Last week Eric Geier introduced us to the open source Web OS project, eyeOS. We installed eyeOS, and today we'll continue by configuring our network and setting up the office file support. Plus we'll learn how to get our files onto eyeOS, create users, and configure other system settings.

eyeOS is an Open Source Platform designed to hold a wide variety of Web Applications over it. eyeOS was thought as a new definition of Operating System, where everything inside it can be accessed from everywhere in a Network. All you need to do is to login into your eyeOS server with a normal Internet Browser, and access your personal desktop, with your applications, documents, music, movies...

We're happy to present to the eyeOS community the result of more than six months of work together with the great IBM US team, where eyeOS will be the Sample Workload of the new System Z serie Solution Edition for Cloud Computing

This tutorial shows how you can install the eyeOS on a standard Linux system. When you have finished ths tutorial, you will have a full, working eyeOS on your server. eyeOS is a kind of operating system which works online, i.e. it manages files on the server and enables the user to upload, download and edit files. We use a Debian 4.0 system for this demonstration purpose.
