In a lot of forums I read people rejecting Linux for the difficulty of installing programs. In this very short post I will show you the contrary. Installing programs has never been this easy.

One of the frequent problems that new Linux users have is trying to install Windows .exe files, instead of using Add/Remove or a .deb to install software.  An easy way to fix this would be to prominently show the Add/Remove programs dialog after a fresh install (without a pop-up).

There are thousands of programs available to install on Ubuntu. These programs are stored in software archives (repositories) and are available for installation over the Internet. This makes it very easy to install new programs. It is also very secure, because each program you install is thoroughly tested and built specifically for Ubuntu.

We have come to a cross-roads in the computer world today. Stick with the familiar Microsoft Windows, or try the stable, secure, but unfamiliar GNU/Linux-based operating systems that have recently started taking off. There are two big factors that stop most people from loading GNU/Linux onto their computer. The first is that they think they need to be a geek to install it.

Virtualisation software such as Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion let Mac users run the Windows operating system and Windows-only programs on a Mac, but the install process is complex and time-consuming, and the programs can slow down even a speedy Mac.

I don’t have the patience to go through a full install of Ubuntu but I also don’t think that running the Live CD does the operating system justice. If only there were an easy-to-use Windows installer that didn’t "require you to modify the partitions of your PC or to use a different bootloader." Enter Wubi.

There are several myths floating around the wicked world web and I intend to address one of those today. That is installation of programs under Linux. It seems to be a common misconception that installing programs under Linux is hard or difficult and that windows is easier. I will now get up on my soapbox and proclaim to the world that it is simply not true!!!
