It’s been a little over a year since I reviewed the first Peppermint OS, and while I liked the first effort on this new project, I’ve been really looking forward to Peppermint Two. Well, my wait was over as of last week, so I was able to kick the tires and get a good feel for it after installing and using it for a few days.

And it didn’t disappoint!

The first thing I quickly decided on was that I wanted a dual boot system. I have been using Linux on and off for a long time and I finally wanted to use as much time using it as possible.

KDE 4.5 is coming out in August but I simply couldn’t wait to try it out a few days before the release. Hence, I got my hands on the Release Candidate v2.

If, like me you were a little dubious about your first forays into Linux, then dual booting is an option I would suggest. I wanted to try Debian, but wasn’t confident enough to leave my precious XP behind completely. I decided to go down the dual booting route, and although it may sound complicated it actually isn’t.

Sidux is a new Debian derivative that's still just a baby, born in January 2007. Sidux announced a brand-new release on June 26, Sidux 2008-02, so we're going to kick the tires and take it for a drive, and see what sets it apart from other children of Debian.

I can't say that Xfce spin is slower or faster than the LXDE spin of Fedora 13. The thing to remember about both of these Fedora spins is that it's easy enough to add any or all of the applications from one spin to another.

The big news of the week: Google Chrome OS is out in the wild. Sort of. If you're willing to roll up your sleeves a bit and do some work, you can get your hands on Google Chrome OS, but it's not quite ready for everybody just yet.
