A good friend of mine, who is very computer savvy, recently bought a new computer and installed Ubuntu on it rather than Windows. Now, despite being a very smart guy when it comes to PCs and Windows, he was still a newbie to the world of Ubuntu, so he and I went through a series of questions and answers before, during, and after his Ubuntu install.

I’ve been spending some time adding Magic Trackpad functionality to the current Magic Mouse driver in the kernel. I’m pleased to report that the changes have landed both in Ubuntu and upstream in Jiri Kosina’s HID tree as it awaits merging into Linus’ tree. It will be available in Ubuntu 10.10 and hopefully in Linux 2.6.37.

Twas a night before Christmas it was the 12th to be exact at 3 am beside my computer I did sat. My ubuntu did stall, I had pondered and pondered and did a fresh install. Swiftly I got to the the manual partition, then suddenly I had a fine apparition.

I’ve spent the past two days down in Mountain View. Yesterday I spent some time at the Ubuntu Developer Summit meeting with the great guys from the Ubuntu Mozilla-team to see about integrating Songbird into Ubuntu (ideally Jaunty, but we’ll see).

After watching the two Doctor Who Christmas episodes I thought I’d watch the ‘behind the scenes’ programme ‘Doctor Who Confidential’. During one segment where they discuss the set used in the Christmas episode I spotted a bunch of machines with what look like Ubuntu boot screens on them.

You’ve always dreamt of making panoramas of your holidays pictures. You’ve never done it cause you’ve never found the good software into Ubuntu or it was too complicated to set up? Me too. Until recently and the discovery of Hugin.

This is a among the first things I do after installing Ubuntu . And since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS has just released, there is no better time for a tutorial on how to display home/computer icons in Ubuntu desktop permanently. You can use applications like ubuntu-tweak to bring similar funtionality.
