Disclaimer: I'm not a racing game fan, in general I don't like racing games at all. So if I say something is the best racing game ever, it's not based on the usual things most racing fans would think make up the best racing game.
mindless gaming
Last night I was looking for a linux game, to do some mindless gaming on the and of a tiring day.
If you like car racing games than TORCS is for you. The Open Racing Car Simulator (TORCS) is a great game that has a lot of tracks and it has realistic graphics.
Don't get left in the dust Mac and Linux users, play rFactor today with CrossOver Games! Arguably, one of the best computer racing simulators, rFactor aims at being one of the most accurate simulator of its time. Play with a computer steering wheel, joystick or even a keyboard.
A good open source platform game that never gets a mention is The Goonies: 20th Anniversary Edition. This game is a remake of the classic NES / Master System version by Konami. The same team is also responsible two rather fun arcade top-down racing games, F1 Spirit and Road Fighter, which are also remakes. I'm not sure what the source license is for these (ack, there goes my Free Software credibility) but you can get the source and the games compile / run on the 3 major platforms (y'know, Lin/Win/Mac).
Welcome to the seventh Linux gaming compilation. The long-awaited Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is finally here. Then, there's the masterpiece UFO: Alien Invasion, a remake of the legendary UFO: Enemy Unknown. Fans of board games, including 3D board games, will also like today's choices. Racing fans won't be left in the dry, either.
The thrill of speeding along at over 100 miles an hour or the danger of crashing into another vehicle traveling at similar speeds is a feeling most of us will hopefully be unable to experience in our daily lives. There is of course one way to live out our white knuckle fantasies, Virtually.
