Thunar and Rox Filer are different from the average file manager, and different from each other too. Both are powerful and flexible, offering features unavailable in other Linux file managers.

This little tutorial will explain how to maintain a clean desktop and at the same time have quick access to your data. It makes use of Compiz widget layer and a lightweight File Manager by creating a folder to store all your Desktop icons/files and make it into a widget where you can access it easily.

The first impression Xfe gave me was of a solid, full-featured, powerful and good-looking file manager. I have to admit, I was really impressed by this application, and I've never used it before. Since I'm a KDE guy, my file manager of choice was always Konqueror and I was never able to get used to Nautilus, Krusader, Thunar or ROX-Filer. But Xfe is a completely new and pleasant experience.

Today I’m going to take a look at another lightweight Linux file manager called emelFM2. This particular file manager will pull at the heart-strings of old school Linux and UNIX users because it is based on the old Norton Commander file manager.

Thunar is the default file manager used in the stripped-back Xfce4 desktop of Xubuntu. It starts quickly and has a low-memory footprint, yet it is very powerful and provides all the features you are likely to need.

Thunar is a lightweight file manager included in the Xfce desktop environment. It has a simpler interface compared to Nautilus, the default file manager which ships with GNOME. So, what are the features which come with Thunar, and what makes it a viable alternative to Nautilus?

PCManFM is the default file manager in LXDE, the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment. Its goal is to offer a fast execution speed, providing in the same time enough functionality for a file manager of its class.

Nautilus is the default file manager used in Gnome by most of the Linux distributions, now even though nautilus is extremely user friendly and has wide array of features (including ability to extend it's feature set with scripts and extensions). All these features does make nautilus bit resource hungry especially if you are using older machine.
