The OpenOffice.org development team have issued the first point update to the 3.2.x branch of their open source office suite, addressing a number of bugs and security issues, while also updating the OpenOffice logo

The OpenOffice.org community yesterday released a bugfix and security update of the latest OO.org release and dubbed it version 2.2.1. No new features have been added since version 2.2 was released in late March, a team spokesperson said in the release announcement.

The Kubuntu team announced on Saturday (February 21) the second maintenance release of Kubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), which is supported with security fixes and maintenance updates until October 2009. Kubuntu 8.04.2 brings to its dedicated users a lot of security updates and corrections (over 200), all with a single goal: to keep Kubuntu 8.04 a stable and reliable Linux distribution!

In a recent blog, Sun developer Malte Timmermann took a position on the security concerns of the Ecole Superieure d'Informatique, Electronique, Automatique (ESIEA) in Paris-Laval, France. The subject was the vulnerability of OpenOffice, involving document macros, for example.

Earlier than originally planned, the Mozilla Foundation developers have released Firefox version 3.6.2, closing a security hole that prompted the German Federal Office for Information Technology Security (BSI) to issue a warning about using Firefox.

According to the developers, the Firefox updates address a total of twelve issues, including 9 critical security bugs, one high-risk and a moderate XSS hazard. Many of the issues could potentially lead to the remote execution of arbitrary code on a victim's system.

Mozilla is out this week with Firefox 3.5.9 and 3.0.19 updates, fixing multiple security vulnerabilities in the open source Web browser's two branches, while announcing that the older of the two branches is being phased out.
