Another week, another First Look and yet another Enlightenment-using distribution came knocking at our doors. It's OpenGEU this time around and it has reached version 8.10.
openGEU is another extremely successful Ubuntu child, running Enlightenment 17 as the desktop manager. Like gOS, another Ubuntu & Enlightenment distro reviewed some time ago here at Dedoimedo, openGEU offers a healthy refreshment of color and choices to the already well-established distro.
In the middle of comments from my last review of gOS, I had one person recommend I check out a new distro called Geubuntu. Well, as I was in the middle of playing with this Enlightenment package, named from its parent distro of Ubuntu, I saw a release stating that the name now was OpenGEU.
This month, we have:
* OpenGEU - A step-by-step install from OpenGEU creator Luca De Marini.
* How-tos: Directory Server, Ubuntu on an iBook, Installing OpenTTD (Transport Tycoon Deluxe), and part one of the new “Create Your Own Server” series.
When someone want to switch from Windows to Linux, he or she has a tendency to only think about the advantages of Linux and not think about the disadvantages. There is a bit of a "the grass is always greener at the other side of the fence" effect at play here.
In this article we’ve compiled 101 list of Ubuntu tutorials. If you’re thinking of switching to Ubuntu from Windows, don’t waste your time thinking too much. Before we start our journey to Linux land there is one question you need to ask yourself: why do YOU want to switch from Windows to Linux? What do you expect Linux to achieve? You don't want to spend the time and effort learning about Linux just to realize that changing your operating system to Linux does not solve the problem you have or does not deliver the benefits you expected.
I have never written a review of a Linux distribution, but I've read more than I can count, and many of them have been maddeningly incomplete and not worth the time it took to read them. Here's a list of items you need to talk about in order to write a thorough review, covering every aspect of the distribution from the initial download to the final recommendation and everything in between.
What does this have to do with Linux, you ask? Windows 7 ain't Linux, that's what. Yesterday was Microsoft's big day. Windows 7 was released. Did you go buy your copy already? Are you waiting? Whether you have or haven't doesn't really matter but I'm going to give you my five reasons why you should switch to Windows 7 and five more why you shouldn't.
