Our good friend and developer of NimbleX, Bogdan Radulescu, gave us an exclusive copy of his new distribution, NimbleX 2008, which will be available for all of you tomorrow! I was really thrilled this morning when I saw the e-mail from Bogdan regarding the new version of NimbleX, I immediately downloaded the ISO image and gave it a try, to see what's new.

Sometimes all it takes to foment innovation may be an idea that sounds cool. When Romanian developer Bogdan Radulescu first ran into what would eventually be known as OpenOffice.org, he says, "I thought it was pretty cool. I had no idea at that time what is open source.

After a couple of years of silence, a new version of NimbleX, a light-weight, Slackware-based Linux distribution is now available.

"NimbleX 2008 Beta has finally been released! After many months of using it, I finally decided is good enough to be released as a Beta version of NimbleX 2008. Several things still need to be polished but overall it's an important step towards what's going to be NimbleX 2008. On the surface, NimbleX is another Linux distribution, shipping as a live CD, meant to be used primarily as a live CD, with the optional installation. It is based on Slackware and designed to fit under 256MB to allow it to be used from small USB thumb drives... Hey, why not 100%, you ask? Well, read on to find out.

NimbleX, which is based on Slackware, is advertised as a customizable and slim Linux distro. The CD comes with many desktop environments including KDE, Fluxbox, Enlightenment, Openbox, and more. The default, not surprisingly, is KDE 3.5.

Some distributions of the open-source operating system are bloated, but Puppy Linux, Knoppix, SLAX, NimbleX, and -- yes -- Damn Small Linux will get you up and running fast.
