Mozilla today released Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate 2, which you can download from Mozilla's Web site. Release Candidate 2 is the first version of Firefox 3.5 that average users might want to run, since it's faster and more stable than the beta versions were. Firefox 3.5 boasts a number of significant changes.

"The first Firefox 3 Release Candidate is now available for download. This milestone is focused on testing the core functionality provided by many new features and changes to the platform scheduled for Firefox 3.

Although Firefox 3.5 (formerly Firefox 3.1) is still in beta, Mozilla is already developing Firefox 3.6 code-named Namoroka. Slated for an early-to-mid 2010 release, the browser will be marketed as Firefox.next (FX) moniker in a nod to new technologies set to take Firefox to the next level.

Firefox 3.6.4 is the last major release before the eventual Firefox 4.0, to be released in Nov 2010. Release candidate of Firefox 3.6.4 was available for download on the last week of May 2010, and it was expected that the final release of Firefox 3.6.4 would happen in the first week of June 2010.

Mozilla, makers of Firefox, a popular alternative to Safari on many users' machines, will very shortly release Firefox 3--the product is currently at release candidate stage, which typically means a final release is imminent. The latest version of Mozilla's browser includes a number of new features to make browsing faster, easier, and perhaps even more fun.

Firefox 3.6, which had been expected by the end of the year, has been delayed with a release now expected in the "first quarter of 2010". The news comes from the Mozilla Wiki where "Ship Firefox 3.6" has now been carried over as a goal for the first three months of 2010.

"Thanks to all the hard work of the Mozilla community as of 9:15 AM PDT today we are code complete for Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 (RC1). [...] If all goes well we should have the Release Candidate publicly available in late May..."

Even as Mozilla rolls out Release Candidate 2 of its Firefox 3.6 browser update, and is only days away from the official release, some are convinced that the upstart open source browser is doomed. However, Mozilla’s director of Firefox, Mike Beltzner, provides some good reasons why it isn’t.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5 has been released and is currently being distributed to Firefox 2 users via the application's built-in software update system.
