Today, on April 1st, semi-satire technology community Linsux.org has launched their own monthly magazine to compete with the more popular "Linux Format" And no, it's not an April Fool's joke. This seriously is the first issue.

Not too long ago, I subscribed to a Linux magazine for beginners called Tux. Fantastic magazine, but the last I heard they were "headed out," so to speak, due largely to a lack of funding. However, unlike bigger publishers, which include Linux Magazine, Tux was special because they were giving away the magazine in the PDF format.

The recent decision by the Open Document Foundation to substitute the World Wide Web Consortium's Compound Document Format in place of the format it was set up to promote, the Open Document Format, has sparked a contentious debate over what shape the format should take.

Not only is TuxRadar reporting that Linux Format magazine sales are up 13.3% over the last year, but I also find that my local book stores shelves appear to have much more Linux reference books on the shelves as well.
