Linpus Lite is a Linux distribution published by Linpus Technologies, Inc., a Linux software solutions provider based in Taiwan. Linpus Lite Desktop is, as the name suggests, the version designed for traditional desktop computing.

The last edition of Linpus Lite that was reviewed on this website, was Linpus Lite 1.4, and that was in September 2010 (see Linpus Lite 1.4 review). That edition was good in some ways, bad in others, but in general, was usable, though it lacked basic security features that I expected to see in a modern Linux distribution.

Linpus Lite is the distribution for netbooks and smartbooks developed and maintained by Linpus Technologies, Inc. of Taipei, Taiwan. The company’s flagship Linux distribution used to be Linpus Desktop until it decided to focus on the Lite and QuickOS line.

Linpus Lite Desktop 1.7 is the latest stable release of Linpus Lite Desktop. The previous version, Linpus Lite Desktop 1.6, was reviewed at Linpus Lite Desktop 1.6 review. While I am still working on publishing a review of the latest version, here are a few screen shots for your viewing pleasure.

Since the release of Linpus Lite Desktop 1.4, which I reviewed here, Linpus Lite Desktop has been going down hill, both in terms of features and in the number of applications installed out of the box.

Linpus Lite 1.4 is the latest distribution that I am currently reviewing. While the review is in progress, I thought posting a few screenshots is in order. Linpus Lite 1.4, released on July 30, 2010, is the latest update from Linpus Technologies, and also the first to come with a standalone installer. Linpus Lite is one of those distributions that I’ve always hoped will be done right, considering that it is published by a commercial entity. However, with every release, it manages to fail in taking care of the little things that matter. Almost every desktop distribution suffers from the same problem.
