I have installed KDE 4 on OpenSUSE 10.3. Today morning, I fired up YAST and found that there was an update available. The KDE4 packages now have version 4.0.X instead of the previous 3.97.X. If its available in YAST that means that KDE team has released the KDE 4.0 final source and OpenSUSE team is quick enough to package them.

KDE 4.0.0 is days away from being released. In this post I show you some pieces of the final look of KDE 4.0.0 and mention some of the most anticipated features of this great step forward for the Free software desktop. Let's take a look at the final state of this highly anticipated release. While some of the most shift-key-challenged KDE personalities have cautioned against too high hopes for KDE 4.0.0 and despite it being the very first in a long row of releases: KDE 4.0.0 is a very impressive desktop.

The first alpha release of Ubuntu 8.04 (codenamed Hardy Heron) was scheduled to be released today, but the official release has been pushed back until tomorrow. However, a preliminary CD image of this first alpha release for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS has surfaced today on the Internet.

Announced today the release of Openoffice3.2 RC1, the new release comes with new features and improvements. Note that the final release of Openoffice 3.2 is planned for XX January 2010.

Today the Amarok project releases Narwhal, the release candidate of the upcoming Amarok 2.0.

The changes since Beta 3 focus mostly on fixing bugs, as we are in a fairly hard feature-freeze to give us time to polish the final product. However, this didn’t stop us from adding a few nice new things.

And remember, the new Amarok 2.0 RC 1 works on Windows and MacOS too.

The KDE team is getting very close to a final release of KDE 4.4. The second release candidate came out yesterday as a testing platform for users and developers to find and squash bugs before the final release date of February 9th.

KDE released the first alpha of Frameworks 5, part of a series of releases leading up to the final version planned for June 2014. This release includes progress since the Frameworks 5 Tech Preview in the beginning of this year.
