Time to put on my freedom hating hat. Yesterday I decided to jump on Karmic Koala at work. I did my usual style of upgrade by changing my sources.list to point to karmic instead of juanty. The upgrade went off with little hitch but the fun started when I rebooted.

This tutorial will explain How to Upgrade Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) released on the 29th  April 2010.

The Debian / Ubuntu upgrade mechanism is a wonderful piece of software. When the new release comes out, just follow the instructions given by the update manager and the upgrade will be done almost automatically. Sometimes Ubuntu asks for your help when you made other changes than the upgrade program itself wants to make.

Currently Feisty Fawn users (7.04) using the generic kernel (which is 2.6.20-16-generic). This tutorial will explain howto upgrade you to kernel version 2.6.22-9-generic(as of 31JUL07).

Have you read the past 25 or so entries in this blog? Once I finally solved all my issues with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, I decided to start the upgrade path to version 9.10. I wanted newer applications. I needed better hardware drivers. But especially with 9.10, nicknamed Karmic Koala, I've had to deal with too many issues. I'm tired.

The final release version of Ubuntu 9.10, codenamed "Karmic Koala" won't come out until the end of the month but already tons of people are testing the development version, which is currently in Beta.
