wbar is a quick-launch bar (not a dock) that has an appearance similar to Avant Window Manager and Cairo Dock. It is GTK (Gnome) based but can work in all desktop environments. It does not require a compositing manager to be installed and is therefore quicker and more suitable for low-end hardware systems.

I was recently looking for an Avant Window Navigator replacement and tried out most of the docks out there. And then i saw that Cairo Dock, which wasn't near one of the best has a new version only downloadable on it's website and after trying it, i was amazed.

Why you would want to do that? Because it uses less resources and it may run better for old or incompatible video cards (including Intel). You don’t even need accelerated graphics to run Metacity with compositing and it even works well inside VirtualBox.

You can use it with OpenGL (to use your graphics card) or without, and it is compatible with Compiz, but it can also run without a composite manager. It works under Unity, GNOME, KDE, and Xfce.

Avant Window Navigator(AWN) has always been my favorite dock application. It was by far the most easy to use and far better looking dock application when compared to Gnome-Do or Cairo-Dock. But that was some years ago.
