For as long as I’ve been involved in GNOME, we have been asked the same questions over and over again: How many GNOME developers are there? Which companies invest in GNOME, and how much? Where can I go for professional GNOME development services?

For those of us who enjoy using the Gnome desktop environment, we know we want our GUI applications to be easy to use and seamless. But, there’s always that one program that uses the KDE QT library to provide a front-end. [...] If not, this tutorial uses a very common Gnome Clearlooks control scheme and the Human icon set to help unify the Gnome and KDE look & feel.

Keep in mind: much of what I mention the below is done on purpose by design by the Gnome project, and aren’t necessarily bugs per se.

There are three well-known GNOME distributions for Slackware: Dropline GNOME, GWARE and GSB (GNOME SlackBuild). Despite the similarity in name to SlackBuilds.org, GSB does not simply provide build scripts - it includes a complete set of Slackware binary packages for GNOME.

One of the questions I get asked a lot is the "KDE vs GNOME" question. My first reaction is "that's not the issue," - the message I want to send the world is not why GNOME is better than KDE.

A few days ago, I installed the release candidate for Gnome 2.30, which provides an overview of what Gnome 3 will look like when it appears next fall.  Since I've begun using Gnome 2.30, I've become more disappointed by the hour with the way it works.  Here's a list of the top five flaws in Gnome 2.30 that will make me an LXDE user if they are not addressed before the Gnome 3 release.

Not too long back, I highlighted my feelings on KDE, detailing some of its shortcomings and talking about why it’s not necessarily the de facto desktop I’d recommend to people. In this piece, I want to show you that the GNOME desktop has a number of issues that need attention as well. I’ll outline eight areas in GNOME that need to be improved for a better user experience.
