Kristanix Games announces the release of Linux versions of its most popular games. The Linux Games project now includes such high quality casual games as Sudoku Epic, Solitaire Epic, Mahjong Epic, Jewel Twist, Fantastic Farm, Crossword Twist and many more.

There are Linux games for every taste: first person shooters, board and arcade games. But if you prefer to train your intellectual skills instead of blasting monsters or conquering the world, there are a few high-quality puzzle games, too!

At one time, asking if Linux could play games elicited laughter and disappointment. Games were basic and lacked the graphics and game play that Windows offered. However this is starting to change and dozens of high quality games have been released to run on Linux platforms.

There are literally thousands of free games that run natively under Linux. This huge selection makes sifting through all of these games a mammoth task for any sane person.

There is no denying the huge selection of open source games available for Linux. Playing through all of these games would entertain many gamers for years. Nevertheless, there is still a massive market for commercial games. If Linux is ever going to usurp the desktop market, it needs a regular source of native high quality games that rival commercial games available on Windows.

Some games may not work on all operating systems but most of them surely will. There are also games in my list that aren’t true Open Source software, but most of them are and all the games are at least completely free to download and play.

I am not a serious gamer at all. If you want to see me totally disoriented, play an FPS game in front of me. But then there are always these silly games for people like me. Here is a quick list of my favorite time wasters or puzzle games or whatever you call it.

Linux might not have as much games as Windows (or game consoles) but people enjoying this wonderful open source operating system can have fun with games too, as there are a lot of free games for Linux available, even some huge commercial ones. Even Linux games are a niche market, Linux gaming has got a pretty colorful history so far. So what’s the state of Linux gaming?
