Sorry Sourceforge

As soon as you accept your thirty pieces of silver from Microsoft you immediately put yourself beyond the Pale as far as the Free Software Community is concerned.

Haven't you read all the repeated threats Microsoft issue about destroying Free Software?

They aren't kidding, either.

Yet here is Microsoft being proudly declared a Diamond Sponsor right at the top of your Awards page.

Microsoft has made you sound like something that has escaped from an Amway convention, Sourceforge. They have debased your reputation, already.

You have included categories of Free Software most likely to get sued and accused of patent violation and asked US to vote on them so WE can tell Microsoft just who WE think they should sue next. Steve Ballmer's face must have an expression of unholy glee at the very prospect.

Like Novell, you were once our friend, but, just like Novell, in the middle of this war that Microsoft has declared on us, you are guilty of Trading with the Enemy. That is High Treason.

I won't be voting in your Microsoft Awards and I hope all other members of the Free Software Community shun you as well. Goodbye!

Wait. Does that mean that I

Wait. Does that mean that I also shouldn't visit slashdot, freshmeat, and other sites that sourceforge.net's corporate overlord own?

Maybe so.

Maybe your attention should be reserved for projects, gatherings and communities which have a stronger commitment to freedom, not just "open source" band-wagon riders.

Sheer madness

No, Kiba, it's not my place to attempt to influence how anyone uses the internet. However, as a community, it is complete madness for us to associate ourselves, in any way, with this perfidious attempt by Sourceforge and Microsoft to undermine the Free Software Community from within.

We all know exactly how Ballmer's Daleks are going to use these awards.

Just by existing, these awards will be used to attempt to discredit us. None of us might go near them but Ballmer's trolls certainly will.

"Open Office? Sue that for sure. It's only used by cheapjacks who refuse to pay a proper license for Office, anyway"

"GNU/Linux?...Everyone knows that it's based on 243 Microsoft patents... better sue that."

And so on.

They will then use these phony results as propaganda in 'Get the Facts', and in planted blogs and news articles. They will use them in court;

"Your Honour, these people have even admitted at their awards ceremony that these are stolen patents and that they deserve to be prosecuted for their illegal usage of other people's IP. We just seek remuneration for what they have stated is rightfully ours."

These awards are potentially more dangerous to us than the defection of Novell to the enemy. We must disassociate ourselves from them completely, and from the perpetrators of this deceitful attack.
