In our world, people get into conflicts about all sorts of matters, from religion and belief through to money and oil. And, in the Linux world, tensions can build up and overspill into flame wars on many subjects too. The most popular of these is text editors.

If you’ve been involved in IT over the past few decades, you know that the flame of war has always burned strong. It’s like the best rivalries in sports, with camps residing on opposite sides of the field. Chances are, you’ve been in at least one of these flame wars over the years.

A text editor is a type of program used for editing plain text files. Text editors are often provided with operating systems or software development packages, and can be used to change configuration files and programming language source code.

An often overlooked aspect when compared with other more popular operating systems, Ubuntu enables students of various ages and topics to access a wealth of educational software.

An embedded Linux training and consulting firm in the South of France has published some 360 pages of free training presentations on embedded Linux topics. The Free Electrons presentations cover topics including Linux changes since 2.6.10, power management, device driver development, and porting Linux to ARM platforms, says the company.

The premier annual Linux and Open Source conference in Australia, linux.conf.au, is once again hosting a LinuxChix mini-conf. We are now calling for presentations by women on both Free Software technical topics and other topics of general interest to women involved in Free Software or working in IT.
