Last summer, a new organization was announced with the goal of promoting the uptake of open source software by the U.S. federal government. Now that organization has completed its first quite successful year of operations.

Open Source for America (OSFA) has announced a report card scoring the openness of federal agencies and departments! Today marks the six-month anniversary of the Obama Administration's Open Government Directive, a big step towards greater transparency, collaboration, and participation in government.

Open Source for America (OSFA) was announced as a coalition to encourage U.S. federal government support of, and participation in, open source projects and technologies. If that sounds like a broad-reaching goal, it is. Nearly three months after the group's debut, I was interested to learn what progress OSFA has made toward this goal.

Scouts honor — the 98-year-old Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization is adopting open-source software as a path to building better software to support the almost 3 million scouts and 1.1 million adults who make up the group.
